Week One with The Call

With Nathan travelling to Western Washington with the team as their advisor, Emma and I tagged along in our car. :-) Who would pass up the opportunity to spend time with family and friends?!

Saturday, July 11: we made the 5 hour drive to the Puyallup/Tacoma area. I made a stop in Roy as it was Nicole and Danny's baby shower! Yay for babies! It was a lot of fun to see Nicole's family again and to see my friends and celebrate little Ayden. I cannot wait to meet him! Neither can Emma. After the shower, we headed to the Lance's house where we were greeted like family! It was amazing! They were so incredibly wonderful to open their house up to us. And Wade's espresso kicked Starbucks' butt! :-) *if you know my Starbucks obsession, that says a lot*

Sunday, July 12 : Emma got to play in the nursery for two services while The Call led the service. She loved all of the toys and she likes to play with other kids. She didn't want to leave unless we were going "o'side" as she calls it. We had lunch after church with Adam and Mandie at Famous Dave's - it's some good bbq if you've never been. The best part was that we ate dinner like three hours later! :-) Needless to say, we were stuffed for the night!

Monday July 13: It was actually kinda crappy outside, so we hung out at the Alderwood Mall. Can I just tell you that I absolutely love that I can be in mall that takes me more than 30 minutes to walk around in? Emilie enjoyed the shopping I'm sure and Kyle hung out with Stacey. I think Victor hung out reading magazines in Borders for most of the trip, but he didn't seem to mind it. I think we headed to Old Navy after that and then to the Army Surplus store to find a hat for Victor. Stacey and I got quite a kick out of hat hunting with him. :-)

Tuesday, July 14: We headed to my most favorite place - downtown Seattle!!! After walking around the water front a little and Pike Place Market, we ate at Ivars - mmmmm....fish! Oh, and if I had good video or pictures of it, I'd put it up, but we totally convinced Victor to check out the Monk Fish up close at Pike Place and the fish guys moved it and it scared him and the rest of us got a really good laugh! The funny thing is, we totally had the cameras ready because we knew what was going to happen, but then we started laughing so hard, we missed it! We also walked around Westlake Center, played in the fountain down across the street from there and then headed to REI to finish hat hunting with Victor. We finished the trip with a stop at Dick's. :-)

Wednesday, July 15: Since Kyle and I both worked at Kamp Kookamunga, and we had the morning free, we decided to check out kamp together. It was fun to see kids. Kyle worked last summer, I haven't been there for almost four years. My campers are almost all junior counselors now! It's crazy! I got to see two of my favorites and was so excited to see that they are still the sweetest kids in the world! Just teenagers now! :-) ... The evening was spent with Impact Youth in Everett. It was fun to be apart of the worship team again, Emilie led worship and did a great job. Kyle played drums, Victor played bass and I played the keyboard. Jason and Pastor Nathan played guitar. The team then spoke for a few minutes and then did some improv games with the students. Then we just got to hang out with the kids. It was a good night.

Thursday, July 16: Thursday we ended up meeting in the early afternoon and heading to Edmonds to spend some time with the youth group from Edmonds Open Bible. We hung out down by the water, I got some pictures of the kids and the team just hanging out. I liked them, I thought they turned out well... :-) And then Sam took us to dinner at a mexican restaurant - which was WONDERFUL! I love me some good mexican food! :-) Youth group went well. Victor, Emilie and Kyle led worship and Kyle whined about a blister on his finger the whole time. ;-) Then they spoke and did some more improv games. Stephanie went back to Puyallup for the night to see her friends that had returned from Africa and the rest of us got Dairy Queen and headed home.

Friday, July 17: Friday was an easy day. We picked up pizza and pop and headed to Kyle's (where the guys were staying) and just spent the afternoon hanging out. It was a lot of fun to just relax. We went to the pool and Emma, my little water baby, loved it! I found some water wings and so she got to float around and kick. She also loved to slide off the edge of the pool into my arms. She likes to count "one, two, free...GO!" After that, we did our own things for dinner and then Nathan and I picked up Kyle and Victor for a bonfire at the beach. The funny thing is that by the time everyone got there and the fire really got going, the park guy came and told us we had five minutes til the park closed! :-) So we wound up at the Andersons' house playing Mafia. The dumbest game ever!

Saturday, July 18: Another lazy day. Nathan and I picked up Victor to drop him off at a laundry mat and then left him there while his stuff washed and dried. We met with a former student, Kaila, at Starbucks. It was really nice to spend some time with her. We've really missed her and her family. After that, we ate at Q'Doba, another one of my favorites! Then we hunted for sunglasses and a new suit for Nathan. Victor wound up having to tag along. I felt kinda bad for him because originally he was just supposed to help me pick sunglasses... But then K&G was right there and it went from there. He was a good sport and did try on some really ugly jackets for my entertainment. Then Kyle's mom made us lasagna for dinner. It was AMAZING! I love lasagna! Kyle has this rocking horse from when he was a kid and Emma absolutely loved rocking on it. We watched Slumdog Millionaire while we relaxed after dinner. We called it a night after that - we all had camp to prepare for! :-)

Sunday, July 19: We attended Harbor Light Open Bible for church. The team was asked to share their testimonies before we had to jet out the door for camp. We all wished we'd been able to spend the whole service at church, but our help was needed to get ready for camp.

That's the first week. I know, Sunday was kinda lame, but it goes to Senior Camp after that. :-) Overall, we had a great week. I really enjoyed building better relationships with the members of The Call. It definitely helps me in my dealing with the move to Oregon to have some new friends! :-) I'll get the week of senior camp up soon! :-)
