She's practically a genius!

Which obviously means I've turned into one of those moms who has to "one up" the other moms. Well here's my brag - Emma sits up, for the most part, on her own! This feat is normally not accomplished until about 6-6 1/2 months according to our new pediatrician. But never fear, her big noggin' sometimes does not allow her to remain seated up and weighs her to one side or the other. This causes her great distress as she cannot yet pull herself back up. She does sometimes think it's funny to fall over, but I maintain she likes it because her boppy is there ever so faithfully giving her a soft cushion to land on. She would not think it was so funny if I let her hit the cold hard floor!
Apparently "mommy braggers" are not very popular and cause some amount of crankiness among other mommies. Good thing I don't hang out with a lot of mommies! I'm in capable of sharing all of Emma's big achievements, lol. But I suppose I'm just excited that she's actually growing and developing. Nathan and I figured she had to have a downfall somewhere since she seems to be so cute. :-) We have found this thought of downfall though, it is not in her development, it is in her inability to sleep in her crib! She hates it! She'll sleep in it til about 1 and decide she's done! Bassinet? No problem! Crib? Big problem! This is a part of "sleep training" that will probably get the best of us!
On a happier note, while Nathan was in Cali last week, Emma and I were able to go home and visit with my family and friends. She met so many people, I'm not sure she even knew what to think! :-) But it was so nice to be back home in Seattle. I miss my family and I miss my friends. I miss the drive-thru Starbucks' that are near where I need to be! I miss Babies'R'Us and Mrs. Fields cookies! I miss having a mall that is not the size of costco! While Costco is a wonderfully huge store in itself, a mall this size is not desireable for me.
We leave Friday night for Camp Lane. Nathan was asked to speak at Camp Lane Friday night and Saturday morning as this is a retreat-type thing for the new students. I'm pretty excited to see how this goes. It'll be nice to finally meet these kids since I've listened to Nathan, Aaron and Sarah talk about them a lot over the last month and a half. If you're one of these kids and have stumbled across this blog - they've never said anything bad, just in case you're a worrier. It's going to be nice to see more faces around campus, although I do enjoy the quiet. So far, so good!
With all that said, I'm going to bed. Emma's already woken up once and it's only 11:15! We're not off to a good start with that already happening. Thank goodness we don't have plans in the morning, Emma and I might just have to sleep in. Don't judge, sometimes, a little extra rest is good when you're typically up by 8 am everyday! And, FYI, sleeping in is 9, so don't get all huffy either. Okay, no more procrastinating - bedtime!
