(that was Emma's little hello to everyone! :-) She is super fascinated by the keyboard.)
So... Our move wasn't as easy as we'd anticipated, but we made it. I for one am not really looking forward to possibly moving again. While we don't have cable, I think I can sacrifice ABC Family and TLC's "Jon and Kate Plus 8" to not move in the near future, lol.
The moving fiasco began bright and early Thursday morning when my parents and Nathan met at the UHaul place. They were told that we could have to UHaul when the place opened at 7 am. Low and behold, noone was there when they arrived. It still amazes me that a company can post that they open at 7 yet not one person shows up until 8. It wasn't until about 9 when they got the keys and drove off. Of course UHaul had to discount our price and give us extra miles for their huge mistake, plus we got a larger truck.
When the UHaul finally made it to the apartment, I was so ready to be done packing the last of everything. In my mind, I completely thought that since I'd been up and packing since 7 am that we would definitely be loaded and ready to go by about 12. I definitely underestimated the amount of stuff that Nathan and I have. We were finally pulling out at roughly 6:15 pm. Man alive was that a long day. I'd like to say that I'm pretty proud of myself and I only shed a couple tears as I drove off and realized that I wouldn't be seeing all the things I was passing every day. We, of course, stopped at Dick's Drive-In since, being a Seattlelite, I cannot pass through Seattle and not stop. :-) I ate my last meal at Dick's for what I assume will be quite some time. I treasured each bite. Hehe! During the trek to Dick's, the UHaul was a little testy and my parents were less than thrilled that the truck was not performing quite as well as it should, but we pressed on to Olympia where we stayed with my grandparents for the night.
Now bright and early the next morning, my parents contacted UHaul about the truck and it's flaws and they sent a mechanic out to look at it. Imagine being paid to come and look at a truck only to say, "You packed too much of the heavy stuff towards the back". I find it entertaining, but when we packed the truck, both my dad and Nathan assumed that we would only fill half the truck so they didn't pack straight up to the top. :-) That's what we get for assuming. By 11 am we were on the road. Two potty stops later, we arrived at Nathan's parents house to drop off the day bed that was in our guestroom for his sister and continue the caravan down to Eugene. The rest of the drive pretty much sucked since I was alone in my jam-packed with random stuff car and the scenery outside was pretty lame. *Nathan took Emma because he didn't want me to buy a baby mirror
We finally arrived in Eugene at like 5 or so and I have never been happier to get out of my car! We had Nathan's dad and brothers and my dad and brothers, plus Brett and Chuck helping unload stuff. Dilema 1 - how to get all of our bedroom furniture into the bedroom. Well... this is still a dilema as the bedroom isn't big enough for both dressers. Dilema 2 - where to put the extra dresser/mirror set. It's in our little nook just outside of our bedroom. Dilema 3 - how to get the boxspring for the bed upstairs... I wish I had taken a picture! :-) We had to take the front door off! Whoever built these apartments didn't think the front door/stair thing through very well. Dilema 4 - how to get the crib upstairs. They had to take the side panel off and it went up. Dilema 5 - how to get the crib into the bedroom. Nathan and to take the crib apart and put it back together.
Finally we're all moved in. Flash forward to today - we are still not completely unpacked and guess what? A box is missing! We have searched high and low for it, but it's seemed to vanish! Unfortunately this box contains Nathan's Lugz, his cell phone charger, his alarm clock and the lamp that was on his nightstand. Hopefully nothing too important was shoved in that box. We'll call UHaul in the morning and find out if they found a stray box in the back of a truck, but my dad says they cleaned out the truck before they returned it, so it's not likely. We just can't figure out where the box could have disappeared to. :-) We are blessed though as we are paying about 350 less than we paid back home in rent and as an added perk, we get free DSL and a free home phone line! So, please email me if you'd like our home phone number. I can't call long distance, but you can call me! I'll be home a good majority of the time and since I don't like to chat for a long time on my cell phone since it uses my minutes, if you don't mind wasting yours, I'll chat your ear off! haha! Our neighbors are very nice and the two that live 1 and 2 doors down both have kids! One has a 1 1/2 month old little boy and the other has a 1 1/2 year old little girl and are expecting #2 any day now! I must say it's nice having neighbors with babies because I feel less bad when Emma's having a bad time.
Emma by the way is doing splendid! She isn't sleeping through the night as well, but each night she sleeps a little bit longer, so we're getting back into the routine. She's still knawing hardcore on stuff and drooling like a bulldog :-) so I'm sure teeth are coming soon.
At the top are a couple pics of the only two finished rooms in the house! :-) Someday the rest will be all put away and organized! But until then, appreciate the two that are... The apartment/townhome is a little smaller than our old place, but I still like it alright. I am still hoping to have my own home someday, but to be completely honest, this place isn't that bad. God's blessed us with a cheaper place to live that's in a safer place where I don't have to feel scared all the time. Although I have to admit that I'm still a little jumpy :-) When you're used to hearing noise all the time, to hear quiet and then a random sound here and there, it's a bit alarming. :-) But I'm doing well and I'm still at peace with the move. Everyone here is nice and I'm not feeling out of place. We've barely made a meal at home too! I suppose that is a benefit to being the new kids in town - everyone wants to have you over!
Well - that's our big move! I'm sure I'll think of more stuff tomorrow that I should have added, but I will post more about life here in Eugene as things happen.
